About us
Midsummer Open Air Concert
A group of young people were inspired to spend a couple of weeks of their summer holiday in Moldova. Their mission was to help run holiday camps for children and support churches in the rural areas. Fundraising initiatives were considered and the decision was made to hold a concert so that the teams of young people could take a gift for the Moldovan churches.
Since 2008, there have been 10 concerts and more than £35,000 has been donated.
Christian Family Concern
Christian Family Concern is a small charity based in South Croydon, which seeks to
support families through our three areas of work: Accommodation and housing
support for young mothers, a day nursery and a counselling service. The work of the
charity began in 1893 with one Christian woman’s vision to help women support their
children and the work has progressed to what we do today.
Birdhurst Day Nursery welcomes children from all backgrounds and provides them
with a safe, caring and stimulating environment to enable them to learn and grow.
The counselling service utilises the skills and experience of three Christian
counsellors to provide one to one counselling to people from all backgrounds.
The housing support work is at the heart of the charity and currently we are able to
accommodate 20 young mothers and their children who might otherwise have no
home. Many come to us having been sofa surfing with friends, are care leavers and
come from chaotic family backgrounds. The work seeks to provide the young
mothers with a safe place to live and offers them support with independent living
skills and parenting skills in order to move them on to live independently.
Many of the young mothers return to education and later into employment, several
young women have gone on to university gaining degrees that have taken them into
careers. For some of them the biggest achievement is being a parent to their
children and caring for them without support of professionals when they had not
experienced positive parenting themselves.
We extended our accommodation earlier this year when four new self- contained
units were created and on completion promptly filled with mothers and their children.
We are planning to convert one further accommodation unit this year in previous
office space we are currently appealing for donations towards the cost of converting
this space and to furnish it ready for another young mother to be blessed. We
always have a waiting list!
